Job description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Fabrication Engineer to join our Engineering team on-site at our facility in Mundelein, IL. You will transform complex 3D models into production-ready designs, program cutting-edge CNC equipment, and establish precise manufacturing process routings to ensure seamless floor operations. The ideal candidate possesses comprehensive knowledge of precision sheet metal processing, advanced manufacturing software, and production workflows.
Duties
- Design & Model Management: Unfold complex 3D models, calculate precise bend allowances, and generate comprehensive flat layouts.
- Technical Drafting: Create detailed fabrication and engineering drawings that adhere strictly to dimensional specifications.
- CNC Programming: Program CNC turret presses, precision lasers, and press brake machinery to optimize material yield and production efficiency.
- Process Routing: Develop and document exact manufacturing process routings and build structured, accurate Bills of Materials (BOM).
- Estimating: Analyze blueprints, calculate material take-offs, determine labor hours for cutting, welding, and assembly, and generate competitive, profitable bids
Skills
- SolidWorks Proficiency: Advanced hands-on experience and expert-level proficiency is strictly mandatory.
- Software Expertise: Extensive operational knowledge and experience with Amada programming software (for lasers, turrets, and press brakes) is strictly mandatory.
- Preferred Software: Experience with Trumpf laser programming software is highly preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of precision sheet metal characteristics, advanced fabrication processes, specialized tools, and raw material properties.
- Process Engineering: Proven ability to map out and develop complete manufacturing process routings from engineering to final assembly.
- Computer Literacy: Fully proficient with standard office productivity tools, including MS Word and MS Excel.
- ERP Systems: Familiarity with JobBOSS ERP software is highly preferred but not required.
- Engineering Experience: 5–10 years of dedicated Engineering and Design experience within a precision manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
- Machining Core Competencies: Hands-on or programming experience with CNC milling and CNC turning operations is considered a distinct professional asset.
- Education: No formal academic degree or Trade School certification is strictly required.
- Preferred Education: A College Degree or advanced technical certification in engineering, Manufacturing, or Industrial Design is considered a significant plus.
- Demonstrated ability to work rigorously to exact industrial specifications with an extremely close attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, allowing for seamless collaboration across cross-functional engineering and production teams.
- Self-managing professional capable of operating efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Team-oriented, time-sensitive mindset with a proven capacity to excel under tight production deadlines.
