Women Take The Reins at Larsen

According to data and trends, in the last few years, women made up 47% of the American workforce, but only 30% in manufacturing. And though men still hold the majority of U.S. manufacturing jobs, positions for women have been steadily increasing.

Larsen Manufacturing is proud to play its part in supporting female staff in male-dominated jobs. We have trained five women to be Set-Up Operators, responsible for setting up the dies presses that will be used for production. For decades, this function has primarily been handled by men, in our company, as well as the industry on the whole. In addition, Larsen routinely hires women to be Operators, Set-Up Operators, Leads, and Supervisors; giving them equal footing in determining our day-to-day operations.
During National Women’s Month, we’d like to recognize a few of our female employees shining in their positions at our El Paso facility.

  • Miriam Alanis: hired as a packer in 2017, promoted to Press Operator, and then to Set-Up Operator. She is now a Wire EDM Operator in the Tool Room, becoming the first woman to work in our Tool Room. She is a hard-working and loyal employee.
  • Martha Sanchez: hired as a packer in 2008, was promoted to Press Operator. She is now a Set-Up Operator. Our Production Manager, Edgar Navarrete, considers her one of the most valuable production employees he has.
  • Blanca Salamanca: hired as a packer in 2005, was promoted to Press Operator, then became an Inspector in the Quality Department. One of our longest-tenured employees, she returned to the Production Department as a Production Lead.
  • Guisela Garcia: hired as a packer in 2006, she was promoted to Press Operator, then moved to the front office as a Customer Service Representative. Promoted again to Customer Service Manager, she is currently a Materials Expediter.
  • Norma Olivas: hired as a packer in 2008, was promoted to Press Operator. Another long-time employee, she is now a Set-Up Operator.

While we couldn’t be more proud of them, and what they have accomplished, our recognition and gratitude extends to all of our female employees, in all of our locations. Their contribution, and dedication, are unparalleled. We are honored to have them as part of the Larsen team.
